Display: Prepare Your Own. We'll share files & handouts!

ReadyMoms.org was proud to be a participant in the 2007 American Public Health Association (APHA) conference in Washington, DC November 3-7, 2007. We promoted Community Awareness of Pandemic Flu and the ability for Household Preparation for this and all emergencies individual households may face.

Display: Prepare Your Own. We'll share files & handouts!

Post by Readymom »

While at the APHA Conference, we had quite a number of visitors to our booth express an interest in a grass-roots type of presentation within their own communities. Requests for the files containing the photos on the Emergency Pantry, the original signage, the lettering format for posters are all available. Some requested photo files to include in PowerPoint presentations. Again, we'd be happy to accomodate.

If you would like to receive this information on how to prepare your own Community Awareness & Preparation disply, please contact us at capadmin@comcast.net. We'll be happy to help and pass on the files to get you started!!

The display is quite extensive. We try to hit on a variety of subject areas in our display, when we go out into our local (and sometimes not-so-local community). You can tailor the presentation/display to your own needs. Areas covered, include:
  • (1) The historical aspect of a pandemic through photos of the 1918/Spanish Flu which tie in to current pandemic concerns for the 21st century (via poster board visuals)

    (2) Current Governmental activity in the preparation of a possible pandemic through various handouts with
printed excerpts from significant agencies (Homeland Security, Center for Disease Control) and posters listing 'Behind the Scenes' activities that have recently occurred.

    (3) The need for citizens to prepare their homes is reinforced through a handout from the American Trucking
Industry, 'What Follows is What Will Happen Here in the US if the Trucks Stop', explaining what can happen should the American Trucking Industry be shut down due to wide-spread illness, etc. This is also backed by a document from Homeland Security, 'Best Practices & Protocols' (issued April 2007) in which it is stated that 'The population may be directed to remain in their homes under self-quarantine for up to 90 days per wave of the outbreak to support social distancing."

    (4) Help for citizens to 'Get Pandemic Ready' (or prepared for any hazard, really), is displayed through visual sample items that folks should consider having available in their home. Ideas on how to prepare an Emergency Pantry, 'Sick Room' or Sanitary Alternates are all available. These handouts were featured (in a binder) at our APHA booth. They include:
      • - Food & Water
        - Alternate Cooking
        - Alternate Electric
        - Alternate Lighting
        - Alternate Communications
        - Alternate Sanitation
        - Cleaning Supplies
        - Personal Protection Equipment
        - Medical: General
        - Medical: Flu (PPE Equipment, Sick Room, ORS Solution for re-hydration, etc.)
