The decline in the number of cats and dogs might result in an explosion of rats and mice and other small animal pests. The increase in trash not properly disposed of may increase those pests AND other creepy crawlers. How do we prepare for that possiblity?

Homemade Mosquito Trap

Image

Image Works on Gnats too!

Items needed:

1 cup of water
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
2-liter plastic bottle

1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.
2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle.
3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired.
5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are drawn to the color black or white.)

Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control.

How to Use Baking Soda to Trap Mosquitoes
https://homeguides.sfgate.com/use-baking-soda-trap-mosquitoes-86299.html

Duck, cover and run: These evasive maneuvers are usually performed by someone trying to escape a bee or mosquito. Not only are the latter irritating, but in some areas, they pose a real health threat because they carry diseases. Mosquito repellents usually work to mask your scent. This is because mosquitoes smell their food -- they can smell carbon dioxide from more than 150 feet away, according to WebMD. Instead of masking your scent, lure mosquitoes away by making your own carbon dioxide trap with vinegar and baking soda. ---CONTINUED---

How to Deal with Mosquitoes Without Using Chemicals
https://www.theprepperjournal.com/2020/02/05/how-to-deal-with-mosquitoes-without-using-chemicals/

(SNIP) ...Mosquitoes have an excellent sense of smell and are attracted to carbon dioxide — especially to people who release large amounts of it. When you’re hiking, playing or walking outdoors, the heat, and humidity activates the sweat glands. The skeeters get a whiff and then chomp down!

(SNIP) ... If you are considering natural mosquito repellents as an alternative to the chemicals, you have several options: ---CONTINUED---
