Grattan Woodson, MD FACP obtained his MD at the Medical College of Georgia in 1980 and completed a categorical internal medicine residency training at The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, an affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. In 1983, Dr. Woodson joined the full-time faculty of Emory University School of Medicine as a Senior Associate in the General Internal Medicine section of Emory Clinic.

In 1986 he left Emory to join the Atlanta Center for Medicine and to form Osteoporosis Center of Atlanta, where he focused his efforts on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with osteoporosis, osteoporosis research, and physician education. Over his career, Dr. Woodson has participated in a number of clinical trials that include all the agents currently US FDA approved for treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. He is the also the author of a number of articles on the diagnosis and treatment if this disease. He remains active in physician education and maintains his relationship with Emory University where he serves as a Clinical Instructor of Medicine. Presently he is an attending physician in Internal Medicine at the Druid Oaks Health Center and the Medical Director of the Atlanta Research Center both in Decatur, GA.

Dr. Woodson first became concerned about avian influenza after learning about the first human cases in Hong Kong in 1997. His interest increased significantly when the disease re-emerged in Southeast Asia in 2003. As the disease has evolved it became evident to him that the likelihood of a worldwide influenza pandemic similar to the devastating 1918 Spanish Flu was increasing. In order to prepare his patients for a catastrophic event that most would think inconceivable today, Dr. Woodson has authored two books. The first published in November 2005by HCI Books, Deerfield, and Fl., is entitled the Bird Flu Preparedness Planner. The second, on whom he is one of three co-authors, is scheduled for publication in 2006 is entitled the Bird Flu Manual. Dr. Woodson and his co-authors maintain a website for people interesting preparing and coping effectively with the next pandemic.
